Cahaba-UAB Family Medicine Residency - Rural Track

Students who spend time on rotation at the Cahaba + UAB FMR rural track in Centreville, AL are welcomed into the close knit atmosphere here. Students often remark about how engaging and fun the residents are, and how included they feel during clinical experiences and even outside of work. We are excited to offer a 3 bed student housing space to welcome students. During the rotation, students have set aside time to dive into our spiritual health curriculum and we sincerely hope that students experience a time of personal and spiritual growth. Also, they are welcome to join the Thursday evening resident Bible study as well.

We want students to see first hand what the practical stewardship of medical ministry looks like and for students to grow in their development of medical knowledge and skill to use for God’s renown. We want students to leave the rotation encouraged to put their faith into action. Summarized best in our mission statement: Cahaba Medical Care is a community-based healthcare organization that aims to follow Christ in becoming an incarnation of love, peace, and justice for our patients on their journey towards physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being, as well as being a center for transformational primary care training in underserved areas.

Through the years our small clinic has grown into a Family Medicine residency that has delivered care to a community that was previously significantly underserved. As we continue to expand these services, we want students to gain a vision of what is possible in their own home communities.

Overall, we aim to model for students the role of intercessors and advocates in our community and through this time together that students begin to see themselves more fully as ambassadors of Christ’s love and compassion as they practice medicine.
