Via Christi (AKA: KUSM-W Family Medicine Residency at Via Christi Hospitals)

VCFM is a University affiliated, community-based Family Medicine Residency program. The specialty of Family Medicine started here in Wichita, and this remains a strong Family Medicine community. Most of our VCFM training is unopposed involving only our Family Medicine residents. We provide large-volume OB, Family Medicine and pediatrics services including full ICU management. We have one of the strongest full-spectrum Family Medicine OB training experiences in the country, including primary training in C-sections and operative vaginal deliveries. Faculty members are primarily focused on mentoring both medically and spiritually. We also offer Sports Medicine and International Medicine Fellowships. What happens in Kansas goes to the end of the Earth...

Why should a Christian student apply to your program?

Missional supportive community. Excellent training in broad-spectrum family medicine. A great place to come for 3 years to be trained and prepared to serve for a lifetime wherever the Lord may call you: to the urban poor, to a rural community, or overseas.

What specific resources are available within your program or community to encourage spiritual growth?

Over half of our faculty are missional followers of Jesus and engaged in mentoring relationships with residents and students. This manifests in lots of ways from meeting one on one over lunch, to weekly and monthly gatherings to discuss life, marriage, missions, etc.
We have monthly medical missions gatherings "First Wednesday" which are designed to fan the flame of personal discipleship and encourage our residents and students to become more informed and engaged in medical missions, particularly to areas of the world where the church of Jesus Christ isn't planted and replicating...yet. There is a strong international missions sub-current that bubbles into almost everything we do within the residency.

There is a missional community of faculty and residents - the Church of Planeview (CAP), which has followed Christ's example and 'moved into the neighborhood..." (John 1:14) of Planeview to love the unreached urban poor. Many of our students and residents are engaged in CAP's network of house churches and ministry.

With such a large contingent of missional residents and students and faculty, there is a culture of loving and encouraging each other to pursue Christ personally and to make Him known.

Do you accept/sponsor visas for international students or medical schools?
