Lawrence Family Medicine Residency

Lawrence Family.png

The mission of the LFMR is to provide residents with the skills to provide medical care and medical leadership in the emerging new healthcare system, particularly in underserved communities. Given the increasing depth of knowledge and breadth of expertise necessary for the optimal practice of Family Medicine, the addition of a fourth year of residency allows us the opportunity to provide training which offers that additional breadth and depth as well as an expanded skill

We create and nurture learning environments where physicians are inspired to develop expertise in family medicine and to dedicate themselves to the care of individuals, families, and communities, especially those who are underserved.

LFMR Culture Code
- We become the doctors our patients and communities need.
- We inspire, nourish, and support each other.
- We dream big.
- We partner with our community.
- We practice evidence-based medicine.
- We collaborate openly and recognize our own limits.
- We never stop learning.
- We challenge systems of injustice.

Why should a Christian student apply to your program?

Our program provides broad-scope training, including surgical obstetrics and HIV medicine, which are invaluable on the mission field. We have had multiple residents use their training for missionary work. Several faculty members have also completed years as missionary doctors and share their experiences and mentorship. Several of these faculty also organize international electives that residents are able to complete during residency. The program is also very focused on serving the underserved, including with a strong Spanish-language curriculum and suboxone-training, so that residents are also trained to work in resource-poor settings state side. Our program is very unique in preparing family physicians to work in underserved communities.

What specific resources are available within your program or community to encourage spiritual growth?

Resident Bible study/fellowship group, many local churches, patient population & some staff with strong faith traditions, opportunity for elective rotations (abroad & domestically)

Do you accept/sponsor visas for international students or medical schools?
If so, what kind?

Uncertain.
